The Mac app makes signing documents a breeze

In the last decade we have gradually moved away from printed documents to electronic ones. It doesn’t matter if you are signing a lease or doing something like filling out paperwork, it can all be done from your computer. These documents are easier to sign if you own the property.

While you might use third-party software such as Adobe Acrobat Reader for filling out your documents, there is another method that does not require downloading any. The Preview app is built into MacOS and allows you to sign virtually any document within seconds.

How to insert your digital signature in your Mac

First, add your signature on your Mac. This can be done within Preview. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Click on the document that you wish to sign in Preview.
  2. Next, click the Markup icon. 
  3. Next, click on the Sign up button. 
  4. Choose Sign up

Apple will link your signature and your iCloud accounts, which makes your signature available in Preview for any Mac that you log in with an Apple ID. 

There are three ways to make a digital copy of your signature. 

  • TrackpadIf you wish to use your finger to sign your Mac’s signature, select this option.
  • CameraTake a piece of paper to sign and hold up the camera on your Mac. Preview will detect your writing and digitize it.
  • iPhone/iPadYou can sign your signature using this method to connect devices.

How to add your signature on a PDF

Once you have completed the setup, you can sign your documents in Preview. 

Open your document in Preview. Follow the steps above except click on the signature button to add your signature. 

Add your signature to your document by moving and resizing it.

The document will contain a small box with your signature. You can drag it around to resize. You can save your document after you’ve signed it. Then, share the document.
