KANSAS City, Mo. (AP) – A federal agency has recommended nearly $200,000 in fines after an apprentice technician died from electrocution at a construction site in Kansas City last year – just a year after another technician working for the company was electrocuted at a construction site in Kansas.
U.S. Engineering Services technician died Aug. 24, 2022 when he was attempting to clean a chiller at University Academy, Kansas City, Missouri.
OSHA found that the company failed to follow the required procedures which could have prevented the death. Similar violations were cited by OSHA after another HVAC technician at the company, who was working on rooftop air conditioner units in Wichita in Kansas in July 2021.
OSHA issued a citation to U.S. Engineering Services (a U.S. Engineering subsidiary) for three repeat and serious violations. It also proposed penalties of $197,642 Similar violations were discovered by the agency after the worker was killed in Wichita. U.S. Engineering Services was responsible for the penalty in this case.
The company has 15 business days to respond to OSHA’S recommendations. U.S. Enterprises spokespeople did not immediately reply to my request for comment.
